As we know there is no election for the Governor. Article 155 of Indian Constitution deals with the appointment of Governor, The Governor is the constitutional head (Chief Executive head) of the state who is appointed by the President(Nominal Head of State). He / She can be the Governor of more than one state (According to Article 153 of Indian Constitution). Following are some facts about the qualification of governor.
- A citizen of India.
- She / He should not be member of either house of the parliament or of the state legislature.
- She / He should not hold any profit and must have attained the age of 35 years.
- Governor holds office for the term of 5 years.
- She / He can submit her / his resignation to the president and remains in office during the pleasure of the President (article 156).
- The Governor takes oath by the Chief Justice of state / High Court.
- If a Governor dies in office the Chief Justice of Concerned High Court take charge as acting Governor.
