RBI Grade B 2018 Notification Out Soon, Exam Date, Apply Online Here

Central Bank of India also called RBI – Reserve Bank of India has usually held the RBI Grade B Officer Examination once in a year to select the eligible candidates for various posts. RBI is going to release the notification of various posts for RBI Grade B Officers in the first week of May 2018. Computer based online exam will be conducted in the month of June and July for Preliminary exam and Mains respectively. This test is conducted every year in the month of June after the notification released in the month of May. About 2 Lakhs participants have applied for the RBI Grade B Posts in 2017.

RBI Grade B Application Form 2018

RBI Grade B Application form for the post of Officer will be available from the first week of May 2018 till the end of that month. Eligible candidate have to fill all the required and information and make the payment for successful registration. After the successful online registration, the aspirants needs to keep the registration number and password for future use like download admit cards as well as to check the result.

RBI Grade B Officer Eligibility Criteria 2018 

Candidates should first read the below eligibility criteria before apply and online registration for the RBI Grade B Officer.

A. RBI Grade B Education Qualification

The educational qualification varies from one post to another for RBI Grade B Officer positions.

RBI Grade B Officer (DR) – General

  • A minimum of 60% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PWD) or an equivalent grade in Bachelor’s degree as well as in 12th (or Diploma or equivalent) and 10th Standard examinations.

RBI Grade B Officer (DR) – DEPR

  • A Master’s Degree in Economics / Econometric / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters /years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University /Institute.
  • (Candidates having M.Phil. Degree and Doctorate Degree from a recognized Indian/Foreign University/Institute in the specified subjects will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit by 2 year and 4 years respectively.)

RBI Grade B Officer (DR) – DSIM

  • A Master’s Degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Mathematical Economics/ Econometric/ Statistics & Bioinformatics from IIT-Kharagpur/ Applied Statistics & Information from IIT-Bombay (OR)
  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics and one year post graduate diploma in Statistics or related subjects from an institute of repute (OR)
  • M. Stat. Degree of Indian Statistical Institute (OR)
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta.

B. RBI Grade B Officer Age Limit

  • Minimum Age Limit – 21 years
  • Maximum Age Limit – 30 years

Age Relaxation for RBI Grade B Exam

The Age Relaxation for RBI Grade B Exam will be applicable to reserve category applicants only and the same mentoned below.

  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • OBC (Non – Creamy Layer) – 3 years
  • PWD – 10 years
  • PwD (OBC)  – 13 years.
  • PwD (SC/ST) – 15 years

What job does a RBI Grade ‘B’ officer do ?

RBI Act, 1935 empowered the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to perform the role of general superintendence and control of India’s banking system. Officers cadre are the operational backbone of RBI in India’s Monetary System.The Officer Grades in RBI are from ‘A’ to ‘F’.

Grade ‘A’ is for Assistant Managers

Grade ‘F’ is for Executive Director

When RBI Assistants clear an internal promotion exam, they are appointed as Officers in Grade ‘A’ and join as Assistant Managers.One must serve at least for three years as Assistants before they can give the internal exam.

Grade ‘B’ officers, on the other hand, join as Managers in RBI after they clear RBI Grade ‘B’ (Direct Recruitment) Exam. Grade ‘B’ officer is the only direct officer level entry into Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Role of RBI Grade ‘B’ Officers

RBI offices are divided into two parts – Central office and Regional offices. There are 31 regional offices and one Central office. The Central office is in Mumbai. Different departments like Banking Regulation and Supervision, Non-Banking Regulation and Supervision, Currency Management, Government and Bank Accounts function under the Regional offices. All these are run by RBI officers.

Central office is entrusted with supervision work and regional offices do the regulation work. Circulars and notifications about policy decisions are issued by Central office. The implementation of these is looked after by the Regional offices.

About the job profile of officers in RBI

An officer’s job profile depends on the department he/she is posted in. There are four clusters namely- financial markets and infrastructure, monetary policy and research, regulation and risk management and supervision and inclusion in which an officer is assigned.One moves up within the cluster or may be transferred to others also. Example, Officers working with department of Banking Supervision inspect and ensure that commercial banks are complying with RBI directives.

When Grade ‘B’ officers move up the hierarchy, they are appointed as Deputy Governors. Two out of four Deputy Governors of RBI are drawn from the officer cadre of RBI. For example, currently, N S Vishwanathan and R. Gandhi are two Deputy Governors who started their career at RBI as Grade ‘B’ officers.

A job at RBI is not a typical bank job and it will make you part of the decision-making process which affects the banking industry in India. The nature of RBI is regulatory and supervisory, so every day is full of challenges in terms of formulating new policies and guidelines for banks on varied issues like financial inclusion, KYC norms, bank deposits, cash reserve ratios and interest rates.
