TOEFL stands for Test of English Language as a Foreign Language, started in 1964. It is a standardized test to measure the English Language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English-Speaking universities.
TOEFL and IELTS are two major exams given by students. Around 2.3 million people give the TOEFL exam each year.
The TOEFL tests an international student’s usage and understanding of English as it is spoken , written and heard in college and university surrounding.
Who is administrator/ Developer of TOEFL Exam?
TOEFL exam is conducted by a private non-profit organization, ETS – Educational Testing Service. ETS administers and design the test.
TOEFL Score Validity
ETS issues and send the official score reports to institutions independently. This score report is valid for two years only following the test.
TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) Syllabus Format
Internet Based Test (IBT) format for TOEFL is started from 2005. IBT has progressively replaced the Computer Based Test (CBT) and Paper Based Test (PBT). Though, Paper-Based Testing is still used in some selected area.
Four hour test consists of four sections.
TOEFL IBT Test Pattern 2020
After August 2019, there is some changes in the TOEFL exam syllabus. Now Candidates will get 3 hours to finish the test and out of 120 points. Each section has equal weight. These changes are done due to eliminate the fatigue/Tiredness of candidates.

How to apply for TOEFL Application Process Step wise
- Create a TOEFL Profile. You will use this account to register for exam, view your scores and send reports to school. The most important thing you need to pay attention to as entering your name and your birth date. These must be exactly match the ID you bring with you to the test day or you won’t be able to change them once you get your profile.
- Begin TOEFL Registration. On the Main TOEFL Page, go to the left side of the page and click register for a test. On the next page, select TOEFL test, then read through and agree to the Terms of Service.
- Choose a Test Center & Date. Select the country where you will take the TOEFL, then select the range of dates you are available to take the TOEFL. A list of available centres and test times will automatically be shown below.
- ID Information & Score Reporting. Enter the ID you will be bringing to the test centre. After that you will choose whether you want to receive only an online score report or have your scored mailed to you as well. The prices for both is same.
- Selecting Score Recipients. In this, the schools you want to receive your scores. You can send scores up to four schools for free as part of the cost of registration.
- Demographics & Search Service. You will answer a few demographic questions. Some are required and some are optional. Then you have option to sign up for the TOEFL search service which matches test-takers with prospective schools .
- Payment. TOEFL payment varies by the countries. You can ceck the payment amount on website.Confirm your order and choose a method of payment. You can pay through VISA, American Express, Discover, JCB and Master Card and HX.
