UPSC Civil Services IAS exam is usually conducted in three phases.
Phase 1 – Civil Services (CS) Prelims Exam [Objective Type Based]
Phase 2 – Civil Services (CS) Mains Exam [Descriptive Type Based]
Phase 3 – Personal Interview or Test

UPSC Civil Services IAS Phase 1
Civil Service Prelims exam is consists of two papers 1 & 2. Question papers will be set both in English and Hindi language.
Paper 1 – General Studies (GS) – 200 total marks – Duration 2 hours (9:30 AM to 11:30 AM)
Paper 2 – CSAT – 200 total marks – Duration 2 hours (2:30 PM to 4:30 PM)

UPSC IAS Prelims Syllabus 2020 – GS Paper 2 (CSAT)
General Studies paper 2 is qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. It is prelims part 2 exam.
1. English : Comprehension & its skill (Class X level based)
2. Interpersonal Skills including communication skills
3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
4. General Mental Ability
5. Decision making and problem solving ability
6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, order of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (Charts, Graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. class X level based)

UPSC Civil Services IAS Phase 3/ Interview
Aspirants who have passed the UPSC Mains exam will be called for the ‘Personality Test/ Interview’. Its purpose is to explore the mental qualities and analytical ability of the candidates. Marks available for this 3rd phase is 275. Total marks will be 2025.
